Baby Quilt

I finally made something! After months of little creative activity, Mindy had her baby and that was the motivation to make this quilt. 

Signs of Spring and my despicable addiction to Facebook

This is a two part entry, neither subject has to do with the other. 

First off I want to declare that Spring is truly coming to Brooklyn. Even though we had tempertures in 20s and 30 s yesterday, the Forsythia, Carnellian Cherry, Magnolia  are budding and the Daffodils are getting taller everyday! It is time to do some spring cleaning and purge myself of waste and excess both in my home and body. I am up early this bleak Saturday morning , orginally planning a run, but you know who did not home and I can not leave my precious sleeping alone. So I will take the next coulple of hours to start tidying and purging while my morning coffee runs through my veins.

Now facebook is another matter. I spend nearly every spare minute on that social network. Hence I have not made a thing or really considered making anything since November. But I have to get to work because a dear friend, who I miss, is having her own precious soon. THe thing about Facebook that is great is through this long cold winter I have not felt isolate in the apartment with Fiona and have actually started dating! Off of facebook! And having great fun staying connected with old friends too.

My Daddy is gone.

Just before Christmas my father was hospitalized. They gave him a 50% chance of survival. After a long agonizing month of watching him die , he passed away January 30, 2009. I love him more than I ever relealized.

The always inspiring ABC Carpet Store

I spent over an hour today with my sister Pilar. I love this store. Took some camera phone shots of items that may inspire me.

Great use for all the various textiles I have grubbed from work.

I have been hording two really cool lamp shades for years. This is inspiring!

Lace sandwiched between felted wool. Really beautiful and there were multiple colorways.

Not the prettiest thing on earth but a really nice idea for pine furniture with mosaic on the outside.

My sister Pilar who lives way across the world in Pakistan found the DVD of the first installment of the series and gifted Fiona w/ it for her 4th Birthday. 

I have been pretty busy with Fiona's party prep so....

..I have not been making anything. I have been thinking of making stuff but I have to prioritize. In the meantime check out my blog " Breathe " chroniciling my adventures with Fiona. Today was great, American Museum of Natural History, Swedish Marionette Theater production of Peter Pan, Belvedre Castle, the Carosel, Adventure Playground and finally the Time Warner building where we watched the stars change color. Pictures to follow.

Rainy Day Saturday

It rained most of the day. I washed, pressed and cut over 300 6" by 6" squares of printed and solid cotton fabric to start my first patchwork quilt.

 

Next thing I know I am sewing it together and stayed up until 1 AM. Unheard of these days.

 

That big black creature you see is our resident black bear Mabel.

You may wonder where and what Fiona was doing all this time. I told her earlier that she could watch as much TV and chew as much gum and eat as much candy as she wanted. Her remark? "Why are you being so nice to me?"

I had some squares left, so Sunday morning while Fiona continued her Saturday activities I made her dolls Rosie and Duncan two patchwork pillows and a quilt to go w/ the crocheted throw pillow and blanket. That Ikea doll bed look so cute. No?

This past Saturday I was invited to an impromptu haunted house building at my neighbors apartment.This is is how it turned out.
